San Francisco Labor & Services

Work rules and customs vary from one city to another. To assist you in determining your labor needs, we have assembled the following list of San Francisco trades and the work they traditionally perform. The following labor rates are provided for budget planning purposes only. Rates are subject to change.

Labor Source: Freeman currently has a labor agreement with the Local 510 of the Sign Display and Crafts Union to provide labor for display installation and dismantling. Exhibits which require the use of hand tools, or takes one person more than 30 minutes, or exceeds ten feet in any direction, falls within the jurisdiction of the Local 510 of the Sign Display and Crafts Union. You can handle and set out the products you manufacture; however, all background materials - display boards, backdrops, stands - anything the products are displayed upon, attached to, or made part of, and lying of floor tile and carpets must be installed by union labor. Labor can be ordered in advance by returning the Display Labor order form or on show site, at the Freeman Service Desk.

Material Handling: Exhibitors may hand-carry only what you can manage by yourself (one person) in one trip, using no equipment. The use or rental of dollies, flat trucks and other mechanical equipment is not permitted. Freeman will control access to the loading docks in order to provide for a safe and orderly move in/out.  The Teamsters Union Local 2785 has jurisdiction over all unloading and reloading of materials and is managed by Freeman.

Rates:

Material Handling: The delivery and removal of freight from the loading dock to exhibit space is called material handling. Material handling rates are charged per 200 pounds (cwt) or fraction thereof. All material handling rates include removal of empty crates/cartons and storage during the show by Freeman.

Direct Shipment $126.25 (Crated or Skidded Shipment): Shipments received at the exhibit hall from exhibitors’ carriers.

Advance Warehouse Shipments $105.75 (Crated or Skidded Shipment): Shipments received at the material handling contractor’s warehouse within one month of the show will be delivered to the exhibit hall. Rate includes up to 30 days storage, delivery to the exhibit space, removal and storage of empty containers, return of such containers at the close of the expositions, and load-out after dismantle. These services are provided only by the Official Material Handling Contractor.

Overtime Outbound Shipments: A surcharge of 25 percent would be added for all shipments handled during overtime labor conditions.
